Install Billing Reminder Email Settings: Install New Updates

The Install New Updates module on the admin dashboard lists one-time platform installers that have pending steps for your specific website. Click the green Check For Updates button to refresh the list — an installer only appears when your site actually has something left to install, and it disappears from the list once its steps are complete.
What Install Billing Reminder Email Settings Does
This installer sets up the configuration your site needs for automated billing reminder emails. It creates the database table that stores the reminder rules (if your site does not have it yet) and then fills in the platform’s standard set of rules. It only adds what is missing, so nothing you already have is changed or removed.
- Creates the email_automation_settings table in your site’s database if it does not already exist.
- Copies the platform’s standard billing reminder rules into that table. Each rule defines how many days from the related billing event the email is sent, whether the email goes to the member, whether a copy goes to the site admin, and whether a PDF attachment is included.
- Skips any rule that already exists in your table (matched by rule name), so rules you have already customized keep their current settings. No rows are deleted or overwritten.
Why It Appears
Your site is missing part of this configuration. Either the email_automation_settings table does not exist in your site’s database at all, which is common on older sites created before this feature was added, or the table exists but one or more of the platform’s standard rules are missing from it. The status check compares your table against the platform’s master list of rules, rule by rule, and the installer appears if any rule is absent.
Why It Matters
Billing reminder emails rely on these stored rules to know when to send, who to notify, and whether to attach a PDF. Until the rules are installed, that configuration does not exist on your site. Running the installer puts the standard rules in place with the platform’s default values. The installation does not send any emails by itself; it only installs the settings, which you can review and adjust in your admin area afterward.
How to Run It
- From the admin dashboard, find the Install New Updates module and click Check For Updates.
- If your site has pending steps, Install Billing Reminder Email Settings appears in the list. Click Install.
- After it completes, click Check For Updates again — the entry disappears once all steps are done.
If Install Billing Reminder Email Settings does not appear in the list, your website is already up to date — the module only shows installers with pending steps, so there is nothing to do.
After Running
You will see a confirmation message that reads “Billing Automation Settings Add-on Installed”. Nothing changes on your live website, and no emails are sent as part of the installation. The new rules are stored with the platform’s default values, so this is a good time to review your billing reminder email settings in the admin area and adjust the timing, recipients, and PDF attachment option for each rule. The installer is safe to run on any site: it only adds missing data and never edits or deletes existing rules.
