Membership levels determine how much a member will pay to be listed on the site and what features they will have access to, among other things.  To get started editing your Membership Levels, follow these steps:

1. Sign in to your Admin area
2. Navigate to Members -> Membership Levels in the left navigation sidebar
3. Click on Edit Settings on the membership level you would like to change

4. Scroll down to where it says “Membership Features” and check the boxes of the features you wish to enable for this Membership Level

On new Bootstrap Based sites (Using Framework Version 4.x) the Membership Level Features will look like the image below and additionally offer the option to allow Members to either Post & View, post or view items for a particular Membership Feature. So a membership level with an article feature that has both, Can Post & Can View options enabled, can post articles for this Membership level and view them. But an article that only has Can View, can only View articles for this membership level, but no member on this level can post them:

5. Finally click the Save Settings button or press CTRL+S

Membership Levels Settings and Descriptions

  • Membership Name - The name of this Membership Level

  • Sign Up Email Sent - The name of the email template you would like to sent to your members when they sign up for this membership level. The default for paid members is welcome-paid-member. The default for Free Membership Levels is welcome-basic.  To edit the email template sent out to members upon signup, please see the article about editing email templates.

Membership Pricing

  • Requires Payment - Can be set to Free, Paid, or Claim (Claim is only available for partners on the Elite Subscription Plan).

  • One-time Setup Fee - Add a price here if you would like to charge a one-time fee when members sign up for this Membership Level.  This can be the only fee that is charged for a member that signs up, or it can be in addition to the monthly, semi-yearly, or yearly subscription fee that members pay.

  • Monthly Price - The price per month a member would pay for this Membership Level. Set this to 0.00 if it is a Free Membership Level.  Check the "Admin Only" box next to this option if you do not want a monthly payment option to display publicly when a member signs up for this Membership Level.

  • Semi-Yearly Price - The price per every 6 month period (twice per year) a member would pay for this Membership Level. Set this to 0.00 if it is a Free Membership Level.  Check the "Admin Only" box next to this option if you do not want a semi-yearly payment option to display publicly when a member signs up for this Membership Level.

  • Yearly Price - The price per year a member would pay for this Membership Level. Set this to 0.00 if it is a Free Membership Level.  Check the "Admin Only" box next to this option if you do not want a yearly payment option to display publicly when a member signs up for this Membership Level.

  • Preferred Payment Term - Whichever option you choose will be the default option that is selected when a member is filling out their billing information when they sign up.

  • Upgrade Available - If enabled, members can have the option to upgrade from other Membership Levels to this one

  • Price to Purchase Leads - The price a member would pay to receive the contact details for a lead that is matched to them or is received through their profile page.

Account Privileges

  • Listing Searchable - If set to "Yes", then the members at this Membership Level will display in search results, streaming widgets and other sources on your site. If set to "No", they will be hidden from all search results (including streaming widgets), but still have profiles on your site.

  • Search Results Priority - The order members will display in search results. Members listed in a Membership Level that is set to 0 will display in search results first, members listed in a Membership Level set to 1 will display second, etc.  This setting also determines which Membership Levels are Upgrades compared to other membership levels with different lower or higher Search Results Priorities.

So if a site has 3 Membership Levels - Free Member (Search Results Priority set to 2), Standard Member (Search Results priority set to 1), and Premium Member (Search Results Priority set to 0).  If a member is currently subscribed to the Free Member level and wishes to upgrade their subscription they will see all of the options that have a lower Search Results priority number.  In this case, they will see the Standard Member and Premium Member levels as options to upgrade to.

Similarly, if they are currently a Standard Member and wish to upgrade their account, they will only see the Premium Member option and not the Free Member option.

  • Max Category Limit - The number of Sub Level Categories a member at this Membership Level can select

  • Ability to Accept and Delete Reviews - If enabled, members will have the ability to accept and delete reviews on their account page.

There are 2 advanced options that are enabled when the option Enable Service Areas is set to 1 (enabled) in the Advanced Settings, which are the Max Location Limit and Location Types.
To go to the Advanced Settings, on the backend click on Settings -> Advanced Settings. If enabled, the Account Privileges section will look like this:

  • Max Location Limit - The number of additional locations a member at this Membership Level can choose to display for in search results outside of their local area.
(Note: This setting is rarely used for most websites on the platform as it typically only useful for very specific industries. If you are not sure what this is or how to use it, we recommend ignoring this setting)

  • Location Types - The types of additional locations a member at this Membership Level can choose to display for in search results outside of their local area.
(Note: This setting is related to the Max Location Limit setting above and is only recommended to be used in very specific cases)

Select and Limit Features for this Membership Level

Here you will see a list of all of the different Member Features that are currently activated on your site.  Depending on which type of License you have for the software, different Member Features will be available to choose from here.

If you would like a member at this Membership Level to have access to one of the features listed here, simply check the box next to the name of the feature.

You will also see that some Member Features have a box with a number in it.  If you would like to limit the number of posts of a certain type that the member at this level can publish, you would enter this number here.

Finally, there are 2 Member Features that you will want to select here in almost all cases: "Listings" (the ability to have a profile on the directory) and "Specialties" (the ability to select and display Sub Level Categories)

Let's take a look at some example Features settings for a Membership Level:

In this example, a member at this level will have access to the following features:

  • Listings (recommended in nearly all cases)
  • Specialties (recommended in nearly all cases)
  • Reviews
  • Photo Albums
  • Articles
  • Events (members at this level will be limited to publish up to 5 total events)

The member will NOT have access to the Classifieds feature, as the box for this feature is not selected.

  • Show Website Link - Selecting "Yes" will allow a member's website link to display on their live profile page. This will display on their profile as a house icon that is linked to the website URL they filled out in their profile.

  • Show Phone Number - Selecting "Yes" will allow a member's phone number to display on their live profile page.

  • Ads on Listings? -  Selecting "Yes" will allow widgets that are categorized as "Advertisement / Banners" to display in the sidebar of a member's profile page.  Selecting "No" will hide any widgets categorized as "Advertisement / Banners" from displaying on a member's profile page.

The ideal size of this image is 80px x 27px. The default for this field is to be left blank, which will display no badge on the profile page.

  • Search Results Badge - The Search Results Badge is very similar to the Profile Page Badge, but this image will display on a member's listing in search results rather than on the profile itself.  Enter the URL of the image you would like to display on a member's listing in search results. For example, if you have a membership level called "Pro Member" and you would like a search results page of all members at this membership level to be available on your live site at http://www.YOUR-DOMAIN.com/pro-member, then you would enter pro-member into this field.  The default is to leave this field blank, which not create a special search results page just for this Membership Level.

  • Page After Login - The URL of the page in a the Member Dashboard that a member will be directed to immediately upon signing in to their account.  The default setting for this field is /account/home which is the Member Dashboard home page.

  • Signup Page Sidebar - The name of the sidebar that will display on the signup page for this membership level. If left blank, the default signup sidebar will be used. The default sidebars are "Signup - Paid Member" for paid Membership Levels or "Signup - Free Member" for free Membership Levels.  It is generally recommended that you simply edit these default sidebars if you would like to make updates to them, but you have the ability to create a custom sidebar in the Sidebar Manager and then use it on the signup page for a given Membership Level.

  • Profile Page Sidebar - The name of the sidebar that will display on the profile pages of members listed in this Membership Level. The default for this field is Default Profile Sidebar.
